2006 World Vintage Rugby Carnival -
September 17-23, 2006.

Regional Focus #1
Cataratas de Iguazu unrivalled - the most spectacular waterfalls on our planet

Misiones Province, N.E Argentina

You hear them long before you see them.
A continuous thunderous roar that drowns out the surrounding jungle’s birds calls & visitors idle chatter.
Then you feel them, pulsing up through the soles of your feet.
That ceaseless pounding resonating in the chambers of your soul—a low rumble, the very ground thumping beneath you. It is a pulse of nature’s raw power like nothing you ever witnessed before, nor are likely to witness again.

These endless mass of cascading waters are beholding to no-one but for the Creator himself.
Now move forward. What are you hesitant about? Step closer to the edge. Go on, it is hypnotic!
Gusts of wet yet warm wind, dashing against your cheeks & forehead, refreshing, but compellingly whimsical & alluring.

For 745 miles the Rio Iguazú winds across southern Brazil from its headwaters in the Serra do Mar, taking in countless tributaries, jumping through the choreography of its 70 other waterfalls, building momentum for this moment……..this leap of nature’s faith into the chasm.
To the Guaraní Indians for centuries before Europeans first set foot on this Continent, Iguazu was spoken of in reverence as simply, " the great water."
Taller than Niagara Falls, wider by half again than Victoria Falls, the greatness of Iguazú is not in its height, but is in its sheer immensity.
During the rainy season, the lip of its two-and-a-half-mile crescent-shaped cliff is strung with ribbons of water like the strings of some immense harp. Some 275 cascades pour off the plateau & disappear into the gorge.
Some plummet straight down 269-foot drops in unbroken plumes. Others dance their way down in glittering steps. Where the falls are broken by ledges, the torrent explodes into spray cloaking the gorge in an eternal mist that spawns thousands of rainbows arcing across the countless faces of each cliff.
Iguazú is the beating heart of two national parks, one in Argentina & the other belonging to Brazil.
On the Argentine side (which are by are & away the best for adventure seekers to come up-close & personal with this awesome natural wonder) visitors are offered a labyrinth of metal catwalks above the falls & pathways at river level that lead you to dozens of angles to view & photograph the falls. Each step, each curve presents yet another Kodak moment.
There is an ongoing dance; a kaleidoscope of ever-changing prism-like colour cards, switching between rock & water & light.
The air vibrates with sound. The forest drips. The rocks...drip. A fine net of mist drifts lightly against your face, your nose, it caresses your cheeks. Lick your lips. Taste the falls. Ponder the abyss.

The true interpretation of ´adventure´ is generated passion that attempts to satisfy a hidden urge in man's psyche to participate, to discover & to experience first hand for himself.

Some of us prefer to translate our thirst for adventure sitting in a comfortable armchair with access to a vast library of literal & pictorial material. Those folks then are transported all over the world, placed in situations of intrigue, exploration, suspense & imagination - as seen & described through the eyes of others - an armchair journey.

True adventurers however carefully use disposable income & valuable leisure time to physically experience life’s wondrous moments of adventure by being there, rolling up their sleeves & doing it.

For those persons, their passion & credo is to weave a string of fascinating destinations, interesting characters & a variety of spectacular destinations together in an exciting web of adventure.
Iguazu Falls captures, holds & lives up to an atmosphere of anticipation. To experience Iguazu Falls is to grab hold of a handful of exhilaration, excitement, fun, discovery & exploration.

Come discover one of the eight wonders of the natural world for yourself & return home all the better for having lived a dream.
