The official programme for the 2006 World Vintage Rugby Carnival includes:

Six days of great fun and enjoyment playing your favourite sport 


Sunday September 17 – teams arrive in Buenos Aires and will be met and transferred to their selected accommodation. Later in the day the Opening Ceremony will be held at a special Argentine themed venue in Buenos Aires followed by the parade of teams to the Welcome Party which will feature traditional Argentine music and entertainment, a substantial finger food buffet, three hours of unlimited beer, wine and soft drinks - all in the company of good rugby friends. Transfers will be provided to and from these functions.

Monday September 18 – teams will be transferred to the host clubs for the first round of games. Refreshments (including an ‘asado’ -Argentine BBQ) will be available throughout the day and special areas will be setup for post match hospitality. The evening is free to sample local cafes and restaurants or for those wishing to, an optional Tango Show with dinner and transfers can be arranged.

Tuesday September 19 - today is a complete day at leisure to explore the many interesting sights and experiences that Buenos Aires has to offer. The evening is free to explore Buenos Aires nightlife or an optional Tango Show!

Wednesday September 20 – the second round of games. The evening is free to explore Buenos Aires night life.

Thursday September 21 – another free day to explore Buenos Aires or start ticking off that shopping list. The evening is free to explore Buenos Aires cafes and pubs.

Friday September 22The final round of games. Early evening buses will transfer teams to the Grand Finale Dine and Dance function. It will be a fantastic night featuring awards, non-stop entertainment, great music, a table-served 3-course meal and continuous beer, wine and soft drinks.

Saturday September 23 – its time to say farewell to Buenos Aires and all your friends – until the 2008 World Vintage Rugby Carnival. Buses will transfer all groups to their point of departure for onward travel.

A programme of special activities is being planned for partners who might not want to go to all the games – shopping excursions, organised walks and visits to interesting places in Buenos Aires will be included and details will be sent to teams.

There are three Carnival ground package categories (all costs are in US dollars  and are per person for the period of the Carnival).

Carnival package prices include:

  • Six nights accommodation in the category of your choice on a twin, double, triple or quadruple share basis.
  • Full cooked breakfast every morning.
  • Meet and greet on arrival in Buenos Aires with English speaking coordinators that will provide welcome and assistance at the airport.
  • A welcome kit in each room with a Carnival Guide, city maps, discount shopping vouchers and travel guide.
  • Transfers on arrival and departure from Buenos Aires, to and from both social functions, the Team Manager’s meeting and the playing venue on the 3 playing days.
  • A quality World Vintage Rugby Carnival souvenir.
  • A 3-hour Cocktail Party to include traditional Argentine entertainment, unlimited wine, beer and soft drinks and a substantial finger food buffet.
  • A 5-hour final Dine and Dance function to include entertainment, unlimited wine, beer and soft drinks and a table served 3 course meal.
  • Local service charges taxes and the 21% IVA Government imposed tax.
  • A 24-hour emergency Help line accessible by all participants.
  • Porterages at airport for arrival and departures.
  • The services of English speaking guides.

Carnival package prices do not include meals and drinks (other than breakfast at your hotel and the two social functions), airfares or airport departure taxes (US$18), pre and post tours, personal items such as phone calls, internet charges, medical insurance and laundry etc or additional taxes that may be effective at the time of the Carnival.
Full details including deposit deadlines, cancellation and refund rules and other information about the Carnival and Buenos Aires will be sent to teams as entries are received.

Please note that all visiting Carnival participants and their travelling partners must purchase one of the official Carnival packages.

Pan Americana -  North Tower is a leading five-star hotel conveniently located on Avenue 9 de Julio, only few steps away from the historic Obelisco and the famous State Opera and the Colon Theatre.The hotel is surrounded by exciting shops, entertainment and nightlife. The Emperador Buenos Aires is a new 5 star hotel (less than 5 years old) which is situated directly alongside the glamourous Bullrich shopping galeria on Av Del Libertador.The rooms which are 42 sqm are considered very large by Buenos Aires hotel standards. It is in easy walking distance to boutique shopping and a 10 minute stroll to the Recoleta.

Hotel Vista Sol is a very new property, only opened a month ago. It is located in the heart of the commercial area of the city, two blocks for Florida Street. It is one of the first “design” hotels in the city, which maintains a very modern look, & has all of the most advanced details in technology.

Pan Americana - South Tower is conveniently located on Avenue 9 de Julio, only a few steps away from the historic Obelisco and the famous State Opera and the Colon Theatre.The hotel is surrounded by exciting shops, entertainment and nightlife. The rooms are much smaller than its newer neighbour (the North Tower – refer above) and the bathrooms are not as fancy.

Hotel Esplendor – Will open in June 2005. Location is the best you can get, as it is located on Av Cordoba, just next door to Galerias Pacifico and very close to Florida Street.

Aspen Towers is a very nice hotel with a quiet ambiance situated a few metres away from Av 9 de Julio & in the “leather shops” area of the city. All of the rooms have Jacuzzis & are very comfortable in size.

APARTMENT ACCOMMODATION NOW AVAILABLE FOR WORLD VINTAGE RUGBY CARNIVAL - BUENOS AIRES, SEPTEMBER 17-23, 2006....
The Carnival ground operator has identified apartments at Lois Suites Esmerelda Apartment/Hotel. These apartments have not been secured but will be available should any team stipulate apartment styled accommodation for the Carnival week. To secure Apartments the hotel will require each team to provide a 30% deposit within 30 days of reservation confirmation. No deposit no apartment.The apartments are highly sought after, as they offer flexibility, the price is right and breakfast is included in the hotel dining room.

The Vintage Rugby office must stress that teams considering these apartments keep in mind that they are quite small.

Specifications of apartments that could be available:

A Studio has:

  • Choice of one Double (160 x 190cm), or two single standard beds (90cm x 190cm)
  • A kitchenette with a microwave - no fridge
  • A private en-suite bathroom
  • TV & phone in the bedroom - there is no separate living room

Maximum of 2 persons (they are small)
There are 19 of these Studio units at Lois Suites, Esmerelda.

A One Bedroom Apartment has:

  • One double standard size bed ( 160 x 190cm)
  • One single bed size sofa cama (sleeping couch 90cm x 190cm) in the living room.
  • A kitchen with microwave oven and fridge
  • A private en-suite bathroom
  • TV & phone in the living room

Maximum of 3 persons per apartment.
There are 44 of these units at Lois Suites, Esmerelda.

A Two Bedroom Apartment has:

  • One double standard size bed (160cm x 190cm) in one bedroom.
  • Two standard single beds (90cm x 190cm) in the other bedroom.
  • One sofa cama (sleeping couch 90cm x 190cm) in the living room.
  • A kitchen with microwave oven and fridge
  • TV & phone in the living room

Please NOTE: the 2 bedroom apartments have only ONE bathroom.
There are 18 of these units at Lois Suites, Esmerelda.

All these studios/apartments are SILVER category Carnival packages and located at the Lois Suites ApartHotel. They include transport, both social functions and all the other elements of the Silver category package as summarized on the website and in the Carnival brochure.

Teams are encouraged to make travel arrangements as soon as conveniently possible. There is no requirement to use particular airlines but the Vintage Rugby Office will be suggesting ‘preferred’ Carnival airlines to teams as entries are received. The Carnival obviously provides the ideal opportunity to use all those valuable air points that team members may have accrued.

All prices in US dollars....
The package prices are all quoted in US dollars. For an indication of the costs in other currencies use the currency converter . The cost provided by the converter will only be indicative as the actual cost will be determined by the exchange rates at the time team payments are processed into US dollars.

Accommodation requests....
The organizers will endeavour to meet specific requests for accommodation depending on the availability of rooms at the time of the request. All accommodation will be allocated on a first come first served basis and only confirmed when the required deposits have been received.
