Q: What is
the Vintage Sport fraternity?
A:
The Vintage Sports Movement is created by those who take part in Vintage Sports
Carnivals dedicated to the regular enjoyment of sports in attractive parts of
the world. Membership of the Movement is granted to Vintage Sports Carnivals
participants who support the principles of the Movement.
Q: Why was
Vintage Sports created ?
A:
Vintage Sports was created in answer to an increasing demand from mature sports
people for a truly international movement that could be controlled by the
participants. Vintage Sport Carnivals will provide participants with the
opportunity to make new friends whilst playing their favourite sport in
interesting venues.
Q: What is
the format of Vintage Sports ?
A:
A traditional biennial Vintage Sports Carnival consists of 3 days of games at
local sports fields usually played on alternate days with rest days in between
focused on local tours, shopping or simply relaxing in the company of friends.
There are 2 major social functions – a welcome, 3 hour cocktail party and a
finale seated banquet dinner. There may be a mid-week function (“The Big Day
Out”) which takes the form of an outdoor lunch at an exotic site.
Q: What is a
Vintage Sports Carnival ?
A:
It is all about having fun, travel and making friends. It is the ultimate
experience for an avid mature sportsperson who whilst never reaching
representative status can now relax in the company of similarly aged people from
all over the world every two years.
Q: Who can
participate in a Vintage Sports Carnival ?
A:
The focus is on mature sports lovers over the age of 35. teams can be from
clubs,

Vintage Sports welcomes individuals or groups who are looking to join teams,
supporters, umpires and referees. Carnivals will offer opportunities to men and
women of all abilities and experience.
Q: What is
the philosophy of Vintage Sports ?
A:
The emphasis at each Carnival is on enjoyment (on and off the field) so there
are no Carnival winners. Though participants compete to the best of their
ability, the overall results are of little significance. Teams come to play in a
friendly competition where the outcome is enjoyed by all regardless of the
result.
Q: What
Vintage Sports Carnivals are available ?
A:
Initially there will be World Vintage Sports Carnivals for Rugby, Soccer,
Cricket, Field Hockey, Softball, Yachting, Golf and Contract Bridge. Other

profits from Vintage Sports events ?

Surpluses from each Carnival will be distributed back into the community in

independently manage and distribute these funds.

A:
Whilst preferred carriers with special fare offers will be suggested, travel to
and from
Carnivals on specific airlines will not be mandatory leaving teams to make their
own decisions as to which airline offers the best deal for their travel.
Q: Are there
age limits at World Carnivals ?
A: Participants must be at least 35 years of age on the week of the Carnival.
Special age groupings will be offered for Carnivals depending upon the sport
involved.
Q: What
about special rules for each sport?
A:
Some of the sport’s rules will be modified to ensure those participating can
have fun without causing unnecessary health risks. The basic rules of the sport
will however remain unchanged.
Q: How are
Vintage Sports Carnivals organized ?
A: Each World Carnival will be planned and organized by a Carnival Management Group
consisting of local sports members, the World Vintage Sports Office, the
host city tourism authority and the appointed ground operator. Special planning
manuals will be produced to ensure consistency between carnivals.
Q: How are
venues for future World Carnivals chosen ?

ability to host specific sports and the availability of people with proven
experience in a particular sport. Subsequent carnivals will be held at venues
favoured by participants through regular research questionnaires and carnivals
meetings.

commercial organizations are involved ?
