‘A Day in the Cape Winelands’
Thursday September 2nd

The 2010 World Vintage Rugby Carnival organizers have set aside Thursday September 2nd so that teams can participate in the Cape Carnival’s ‘Big Day Out’ at the famous Spier Wine Estate. Teams will travel by coach for the 45 minute journey to Spier in the heart of South Africa’s Western Cape Winelands where players and their partners will enjoy a fun-filled day of traditional African song and dance, continuous food, drinks and entertainment along with the opportunity to sample special wines and view wildlife all in the company of teams from around the world.

The beer and wine will flow on arrival and be followed by 3-hours of continuous Barbeque lunch with meats, salads and deserts along with tea and coffee food and drinks (wine, beer, soft drinks and water) served from various areas of the estate.

Entertainment will include the colourful Cape Minstrels plus the estate’s own traditional African entertainers with singing and dancing, face-painting etc. For those not feeling the strain of the previous day’s play Spier guides will be available to take small groups on a 20-minute walk to observe the bird and plant life and other attractions on this magnificent 1000 hectare estate.

For those feeling more adventurous there will be an opportunity to visit a group of hand-raised cheetahs in the care of the Cheetah Outreach Programme where you will be able to learn more about these incredible cats from a distance, or get up close and personal and even step inside an enclosure (there is an entrance donation required to help fund the Programme).

Teams will be transferred by coach to Spier departing hotels at 11am and returning to hotels by 4.30pm well in time to prepare for another night on the town.

The cost is ZAR600 per person which includes all food, drinks, transport and entertainment which has to be extraordinary value for money. Space is strictly limited so teams considering this BIG DAY OUT should make a point of making a decision as soon as possible.

To register all you have to do is email Dianne McDermott (dianne@vintagerugby.com) at the World Vintage Rugby Office. The costs will be added to the team’s Carnival package invoice.
